Today’s Verse and Thought
“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”(Mark 10:51)

I can drive
My mother-in-law was an accomplished artist who spent hours and hours each week creating beautiful depictions of nature in her home studio. She was an active volunteer and member of a local art group. For decades, she and my father-in-law went to various art shows throughout the year, displaying her paintings. She never really did it for money; it was a deep-seated desire of hers that she pursued with unrestricted passion.
When she was in her 80s, she was diagnosed with macular degeneration. As the years passed, little by little by little her central vision began to disappear, until one day after suffering the flu, it seemed to reach a tipping point. After that, she began getting treatments to mitigate the damage.
I became her driver after that. One day when we were heading home after running errands she said she wanted to drive. She was pretty sure that the eye treatments were working and she could resume driving. I wasn’t aware of how much she could or couldn’t see so I had to rely on her own estimation of her condition.
I was put on the spot. I didn’t want to find out the hard way that her eyesight wasn’t actually restored, and she isn’t the kind of person who easily accepts “no” for an answer. So I kindly said, “let’s give it a little test. While I drive, I’m going to point out various things on the route and you let me know if you see what I see.”
So as we drove back to her house, I asked if she saw the man in the crosswalk. “No.”
And then there were trashcans on the side of the road. “Do you see them,” I asked? “No.”
A third object was missed, followed by another.
She sadly came to a hard realization that she thought she could see well enough to drive that day, but the reality was, she couldn’t.
We don’t know what we don’t know
When you have full sight, it’s easy to see all the obstacles and follow the road (thanks Captain Obvious). But sometimes we don’t know that we aren’t seeing something that is right in front of us because we are blind.
Our own brain, as well as our own desires or beliefs, can trick us into believing a lie like my mother-in-law whose hope and desire had clouded her judgement. She truly thought she had clear vision, or at least she wanted to believe it to be so.
Deceived and blind
My mother-in-law’s condition slowly and methodically crept up on her unnoticed, until one day it was so obvious, she had to address it. Yet she still had a hard time accepting what was happening (as many of us would). She didn’t want to believe that this was reality.
Today our culture is growing spiritually blind and the darkness seems obvious, but many don’t see it. Over time our country has slowly and methodically been blinded by Satan into thinking that either he doesn’t actually exist, or at the very least, he’s just a harmless, fun cartoon story character.
It’s all in good fun!
Stop being such a Debbie-Downer.
Lighten up already.
Everyone enjoys a little naughty stuff.
The worst part is that a majority - 59% - of professing Christians don’t fully believe there is an actual evil being in the spiritual realm; many think Satan (or the devil) is basically just a “representation” of our own bad human nature, according to a 2009 Barna study. It’s symbolic like a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other.
“Four out of ten Christians (40%) strongly agreed that Satan “is not a living being but is a symbol of evil.” An additional two out of ten Christians (19%) said they “agree somewhat” with that perspective. A minority of Christians indicated that they believe Satan is real by disagreeing with the statement: one-quarter (26%) disagreed strongly and about one-tenth (9%) disagreed somewhat. The remaining 8% were not sure what they believe about the existence of Satan.”(source)
Another Barna survey, 11 years later in 2020, claimed this surprising headline:
“Biblical beliefs that used to be thought of as ‘no brainers’ can no longer be classified as such. The fact that four out of ten adults believe that Jesus Christ—who came to earth to save us from our sins—was Himself a sinner and therefore in need of salvation is mind-boggling. Add to that the fact that more people believe in the existence of Satan than the God of Abraham, and you cannot miss the breadth of the spiritual crisis in America today.”(source)
In a 2023 article in Newsweek, Satan seems to be gaining even greater ground as he infects all aspects of our daily culture
The Devil is front and center in movies, TV shows, podcasts and even children's books. There are Satan After School Clubs, while the proliferating Satanist groups have their own political divisions. Not since 1973, when The Exorcist was a cultural phenomenon on its way to becoming the first horror film to earn an Oscar nomination for Best Picture has Satan been such a popular topic. There's even a Children's Book of Demons; sample passage: "Summoning demons has never been so fun!" A used copy of the controversial book published in 2019 sells for $253 on Amazon.com.”(source)
Satan is celebrated in our fashion:
2021- “Nike is suing Brooklyn art collective MSCHF over a controversial pair of "Satan Shoes" that contain a drop of real human blood in the soles.”(source)
Satan is demanding equal time in our schools:
Satan is showing up in children’s games (see a list at the end of the study):
Satan is in our music:
Satan is even in our churches:
Why is Satan becoming so popular?
“For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”(Genesis 3:5)
According to Satanists, Satan worship isn’t about an entity called “Satan,” but rather it’s about the inner spirit of all human potential. Satan worship is good. It’s a worship of ourselves.
“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.”(Isaiah 5:20)
Those who belong to the church of Satan believe that what they practice is good. They don’t see it as a pursuit of evil, but rather a pursuit of knowledge and personal achievement. They believe that Christianity is the true source of evil and that Satan is the good allowing us to achieve all the desires of our hearts.
They teach that the “overarching dogma is not about worshipping any external forces – real or spiritual – but instead worshipping oneself and doing everything in your power to achieve your potential.”(source).
Devil may care — In a time of chaos and uncertainty, when traditional belief systems no longer seem to have all the answers, more and more young people are finding comfort in Satanism. But these aren’t devil worshippers who drink blood or sacrifice animals. They’re just regular people trying to squeeze the most out of life…“I credit [Satanism] for a lot of the successes in my life,” she explains over the phone from her apartment in Victoria, a city on the southern tip of Canada’s Vancouver Island. “It’s always encouraging you to push yourself. Some people take that into their career, some people take it intellectually, and some people take it physically – like with my weightlifting.”(Why a new generation is turning to Satanism)
You refuse to see the reality
Many today are either uninformed of this trend; are embracing the trend; or they simply deem it as unimportant and refuse to see it as a problem.
Today my mother-in-law still can’t drive. She goes in religiously for her “treatments” every few months because the doctor encourages her (at over $10,000 per session why wouldn’t he?). He wants her to believe his shots help, even though it seems they may actually be making it worse. But she can’t give up hope that one day it will not be so.
Today our culture, as well as our churches, seem to be in the clutches of an overt demonic presence that has become so in-your-face that it’s impossible to ignore the reality.
We may hope that it isn’t so. We may not want to believe it. It may be hard to accept as reality.
But if we don’t open our eyes to the truth, this hidden enemy may be steering us toward a really bad outcome.

Today’s Prayer
Dear Father, I hate the evil in this world. I hate what it is doing to people, families, schools, churches…it seems that we are being swallowed up by it. And yet, so many seem to be oblivious to it. Many days I feel like Lot as his heart was burdened by his culture day after day.
We just don’t seem to be fighting it, but rather we are embracing it, or at the very least ignoring it. I know that in the final days on earth we can expect it. But I also know that we don’t have to be part of it.
I pray today for all of us to seek your wisdom about this.
Show us Father in what ways we have personally allowed our own vision to get clouded by things we have called “normal.” Help us to see what we have let into our homes that cause an open door to Satan. We are inviting him into our homes today in so many ways.
As your children Father, show us how to be the light. Show us what cultural things are infecting our children. Help us to get rid of those things so that we can have better vision. You are the one who can open the eyes of the blind. Today I pray that you give us clear vision to see all the obstacle that are in our path. Thank you Father for protecting us from the evil one. May all honor and glory be yours. Amen.❤️
